# Workout library

> Organize standalone workouts with labels and find them fast with filters.

The workout library holds the standalone workouts you build in the workout
editor. Open it from **Training Plans → Workouts**. Use labels to organize the
library with your own categories, then combine filters and search to find the
right workout quickly.

## Build a workout

Click **Create Workout** to open the editor. Pick an **activity type** (Run,
Cycling, Swim, Hike, Walk, or Strength) and give the workout a name and
description, then build its structure from the block palette.

### Blocks

A workout is a sequence of blocks. The palette offers ready-made block types —
**Warm-up**, **Run**, **Recovery Run**, **Cool-down**, and **Interval** — plus
a **Container block** for grouping steps that repeat together and a **Basic
block** for anything else. Click a block type to add it to the sequence, then
select it to configure:

* **Block Length Target** — either **Distance (Pace Range)** or **Duration
(Heart Rate Range)**, depending on how you want to prescribe the segment.
* **Block Intensity Target** — a **Pace Zone** (Z1 Recovery through Z5 VO2
Max) or a custom pace/heart-rate range. NexRex loads the athlete's own
zones when available and falls back to default guidance if it can't find
  any.

### Interval blocks

An **Interval** block is a container: drop **Run** and **Recovery** blocks
inside it, then set a **Repeat Count** for how many times the pattern
repeats. Garmin devices cap repeats at 1–30, so NexRex enforces the same
limit here to keep exported workouts device-compatible.

### Preview and save

The editor shows the workout's intensity profile as you build — bar width is
distance or time, bar height is the zone — the same preview used in the
library picker (see [Preview before loading from the
library](#preview-before-loading-from-the-library) below). Save when the
structure is ready; only standalone library workouts get the **Labels** field
described next.

<Tip>
To draft a full multi-week training plan instead of a single workout, see
  [Plan Builder](/coaches/plan-builder).
</Tip>

## Label a workout

Labels are short, coach-defined tags on a library workout, such as "track",
"base phase", or "return from injury". When you create or edit a standalone
library workout, the editor shows a **Labels** field.

1. Open a workout from **Training Plans → Workouts**, or click **Create
Workout** to start a new one.
2. In the **Labels** field, type a label and press Enter to add it.
3. Remove a label by clicking the remove control on its chip.
4. Save the workout.

Rules for labels:

* Each workout can have up to **5 labels**.
* A label can be up to **40 characters** long.
* NexRex trims surrounding whitespace and rejects empty labels.
* Duplicates are rejected. Matching is case-insensitive, so "Track" and
"track" count as the same label.

Workouts saved before labels existed simply have none. Add labels the next time
you edit them.

### Who can edit labels

Only coach-side roles (assistant coach, coach, head coach, admin) can add,
change, or remove labels. If an athlete submits labels when saving a workout,
NexRex rejects the request.

### Where labels apply

Labels exist only on standalone library workouts. The editor does not show the
**Labels** field when you build a workout inside a training plan, a plan
instance, or directly on a calendar day, and labels are not copied into those
contexts.

## Filter and search by label

The library's filter bar has three category filters: **Activity**, **Sub
Type**, and **Labels**. The **Labels** dropdown lists every label currently in
use across your library, sorted alphabetically. Pick one to show only workouts
carrying that label, or choose **All Labels** to clear it.

Filters combine: selecting an activity type, a sub type, and a label shows only
workouts matching all three.

Labels also participate in text search. Typing in the search box matches
against a workout's name, description, type, activity type, and labels, so
searching for "track" finds workouts labeled "track" even if the word appears
nowhere else.

Each workout card in the library shows its label chips, so you can scan
categories at a glance.

## Preview before loading from the library

The **Library** button in the workout editor opens the same library as a
picker. It has the same search box and **Labels** dropdown, so you can narrow
by label there too, and its search matches labels as well as names and
descriptions. Each card shows its label chips.

Click a workout card to preview it in the bottom half of the picker before
loading it. The preview shows the workout's intensity profile (bar width is
distance or time, bar height is the zone), the block sequence with repeat
counts, and the total distance, estimated time, and step count. Click **Use
this workout** to load it into the editor. If the editor already has blocks,
NexRex asks you to confirm the replacement first.
